What is IELTS Intensive?

The IELTS Intensive course is designed to enhance two primary skills: Writing and Speaking. In addition to focusing on these areas, students will receive 20 sets of Reading and Listening practice questions to complete at home. Prior to each session, the teaching assistant will review the answers with students to facilitate correction and understanding.

This course is structured to support advanced learners and includes a comprehensive system of knowledge and exercises. The objective is for all participants to achieve a score band of 6.5 or higher upon completion.

Throughout the program, students will be exposed to more than 30 sets of vocabulary aimed at the 7.0+ band, with a focus on understanding how examiners evaluate tests. This will include ongoing writing corrections and one-on-one speaking tests with the instructor during each session. The course is facilitated by experienced instructors from the English Language Institute who have collaborated with and supervised IELTS examiners for 4-5 years.

Writing

*Task I:* In the first part of the writing test, students will familiarize themselves with all types of questions, both common and rare, to prepare for challenging prompts and to excel in scoring. Instruction will cover vocabulary, grammar, conjunctions, narrative sentence structure, and the identification of key features or trends valued by IELTS examiners. Students will learn to analyze six specific lesson types and develop ideas swiftly and accurately, with direct feedback provided by the lecturer.

*Task II:* In the second part, students will engage with various question types, enhance their academic writing skills, analyze topics, generate ideas, construct topic sentences, and utilize appropriate connecting words and phrases. Instruction will reinforce the writing of compelling openings and conclusions while integrating complex grammar and analytical skills to address challenging problems during the test. Regular homework will be assigned, and submissions will be evaluated based on official IELTS scoring criteria, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of their performance levels.

Students will also receive sample high-scoring papers for both Task 1 and Task 2.

Speaking

The program encompasses all three sections of the speaking test, addressing both common and infrequent topics. The lecturer will guide students in analyzing these topics, equipping them to effectively respond and achieve a speaking score between 6.0 and 6.5 or higher. The four criteria for evaluation—Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resources, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation—will be emphasized throughout the course.

Additionally, exposure to rare topics will prepare students for difficult questions, with the goal of reaching an advanced score band of 6.5 or higher. Students will also be taught essential “language tools” to facilitate natural speech and native-like vocabulary use, which is critical for achieving high scores (7.5 – 8.0) in the speaking exam and applying these skills in everyday English.

Each session will include techniques for merging academic language with natural response approaches. Instructors will assist students in enhancing their intonation and pronunciation clarity. In Speaking Part II, students will explore common and rare topics, learn strategies to expand dialogues, and improve fluency. A portion of the course will center on global issues, enabling students to discuss various challenges faced by countries worldwide. This foundation will support their preparation for Part II of the test and help them formulate ideas for their written responses. Group discussions to develop supporting ideas will also be integrated into the course.

Every session will include one-on-one speaking practice. To ensure that all students have at least one practice test by the end of the course, the instructor will conduct a 15-minute individual test with a selected student in each class.
